Be a fruit loop in a world full of cheerios.
I really think I should adopt this as my life motto, because I certainly dress like a fruit loop! Color has become such an integral part of my life. When I was a little girl, I played dress up – like most little girls do. As a young teen, all I wanted was to give my friends fashion shows of my latest vibrant purchases. As a young adult, I struggled with relating to others because it seemed the “mature” or “chic” thing to do was wear neutrals. Blush, black, and shades of brown filled my closet, but I wasn’t satisfied. Over the past year, I’ve discovered that I’m much happier in every bright color of the rainbow.
I’ve gone through quite a lot in my life for someone so young. I’ve dealt with serious depression along with everything else. One of the ways I cope when I find myself sinking into that place again is by wearing cheery colors. I believe how you dress can severely alter your mood – and I’d rather my mood be altered for the better! You’ll find that I very rarely wear an entirely black ensemble, and while blush is still one of my favorite colors, I’d much rather don bright red or mustard yellow. My closet makes me happy whenever I open it, and that’s one of the best feelings in the world!

I have taken polled my Instagram audience a handful of times, asking them what they prefer – neutrals or color. While color tends to win every time, the poll lands very close. However, no matter what my readers determine to be their favorite style of dress, I’ll never want to be anything other than me in the way that I express myself through my clothing. Color will always be a huge part of my life and my career. In fact, I’ve considered changing my branding many times to include more of it.
I’m even drawn to places with bright colors. Perk! Coffee & Lunchbox has become my favorite café in RVA. Not only do they serve some of the best cold brew (or chai lattes or literally anything else on their menu), but their decor is just as vibrant as my wardrobe and personality. I feel right at home in that atmosphere! Their chairs are bright yellow, they have green plants hanging all about, and the walls are decorated in multi-colored strips of fabric (which anyone can write on and add to the artwork)! Alright, now that I’ve written so much about it, I think I gotta go do a Perk run! Who’s coming with me? 😉
Do you prefer wearing neutral tones? Or colorful clothing like me?
