Street Style in RVA

I’m constantly inspired.  Everywhere I go, I see something that reminds me of how beautiful the mundane can become.  I guess I truly do see style in everything!  The other day, I did something that is very uncommon for me.  I went out to walk in one of my favorite parts of the city – alone.  That might not seem unusual, but as someone who works from home, I don’t go out all that often, unless it’s to meet a friend for coffee, do a photoshoot, or grab some food with my fiancé.  I rarely go out to do anything by myself except run errands, so taking this opportunity to just walk the quiet streets and enjoy the cool weather that is wrapping up autumn in RVA was really wonderful.  I sat in my favorite bookshop and watched the store’s pet cat.  I rifled through vinyls at the coolest record store in town.  I even got a chance to scout locations for upcoming photoshoots.  Throughout the day, I realized just how lucky I am to call RVA my home.  I always envy New Yorkers with their SoHo photo backgrounds, or my friends in LA who have constant beach excursions.  However, when it comes down to it, I truly do love that I can bring my own style and flair to the streets of Richmond.  I can rock some chic street style or go full-on boho … and maybe I don’t “fit in” but what would be the fun in that, anyway?

The next day, I met up with my beautiful and talented photographer, Sarah (if you’re not following her on Instagram yet, you should be – she’s the bees knees), in the same part of town, to take some photos.  The results were some of the most fun and colorful I’ve ever gotten to share on the blog.  I had originally envisioned something very Pinterest-esque, with tall city buildings behind me while I strutted along in my bodysuit, high-waisted denim, and embroidered leather jacket.  Instead, I got something even better, when we spotted a vibrantly-painted restaurant.  It made my more simple ensemble stand out in the best way, encouraging the street style vibes I’ve had a love affair with all along.

If you’re looking to wow with your outerwear this winter, I highly suggest picking up this jacket.  It mimics the well-known BLANKNYC embroidered moto, but while the price is less than half, the quality remains equal.  If you’re not big on jewelry, an embellished jacket is an excellent way to go, because it gives the appearance that you added accessories, without the effort.  I seem to find myself picking up more and more leather and moto jackets each year, and sometimes I wear them in place of a coat, when the weather is more agreeable and I just need that “third piece” to give my outfit a little pizzazz!  I’m looking forward to finding ways to incorporate this jacket into my holiday looks this year!  How would you wear it?

    Dear Stephanie,
That’s the thing. I’m based in both London and Stockholm and I hear you. In Stockholm everyone is freaking beautiful, but dress very similarly and in London everyone either dresses really bad or stands out way much so it’s fun to be the outsider and bring your own flair to a “small” town (not saying neither London nor Stockholm are small haha). As for your pictures I love them as they show us a whole new side of you! One that I truly like!

I’m so obsessed with the touch of embroidery. It really elevates and adds a feminine touch to an otherwise classical edgy piece.
