By now, it is no secret that I’m a bit nerdy – or a geeky, whichever you prefer, though I’m sure some would argue on this subject – so when I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot in my favorite comic book store of all time, I may have been overly excited about it. TATE’s is a comic and novelty shop located in Lauderhill, Florida, and it houses pages and pages filled with my favorite faces from all the superhero movies that I talk about incessantly. For any of you who didn’t know this little tidbit about me: I might be the girliest girl ever and yes, my job is writing a fashion blog, but I am also a huge superhero freak. In fact, that was the subject of one of my very first blog posts ever. I will very openly tell you right now that on the night everyone else was going to the movie premiere of Me Before You, my boyfriend and I were in line for X-Men: Apocalypse, and that wasn’t his choice, it was mine. If you were to scroll through my Facebook timeline, you’d laugh at the combination of makeup tutorial articles and “which Suicide Squad member are you” quizzes. Yes, I’m a nerd (geek) and proud of it.
All that being said, I’m still a style blogger, and I’m going to fill you in on what I wore to this fantastic comic shop (did I mention it has two whole floors filled with fun stuff? AH). This summery yellow romper is from AMI Clubwear, and I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I first placed my order for it. I haven’t owned anything yellow in years. This might have something to do with the fact that it was one of my favorite colors as a little girl, and so my mom dressed me in this bright shade constantly. I grew pretty sick of it as I got older, but I decided that my wardrobe needed a bright pop of color, and this comfy playsuit was just the right piece. I have to say that the back detailing is my favorite, with a low-slung opening that reaches just barely above my bra (allowing me the comfort of a regular bra instead of a sticky one) and ties near the neck. The shorts are lined, so you don’t have to worry about the yellow being too sheer, and the material is nice and thin, so you’re still cool and comfortable in the summer heat. All-in-all, this is one of my best purchases from AMI Clubwear, and it was my most surprising pick!
I had such a blast being my nerdy self and I even commented on Snapchat after the shoot ended and said something along the lines of “I think I like shooting at comic book stores. I just had my pictures taken while I read comics.” After we wrapped the shoot, Brandon and I played around a little bit and I got some quality time with my favorite figures, like Boba Fett and the Hulk (who, by the way, is seriously hulking at around a bajillion feet tall). By the way, TATE’s isn’t just comics and superheroes. They also have a huge anime and manga section, along with all sorts of Pop! figurines, and plenty of other fun novelty items and books. It’s a fantastic place to find a gift for a friend (or for yourself). I try to make a trip here literally every time I visit Florida. If you ever get a chance to check this place out, you must. I promise, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy (although this nerd might be a little biased)!
