Originally, I was going to make this a “prom tips and tricks” post, but then I realized that for the majority of schools out there, prom has already passed! This is what happens when you were homeschooled all the way through high school and your dates were always different from the public and private schools around you – you can never keep up! One way or another, I can still share some of my tips for feeling comfortable when you’re dressed up for any occasion: prom, wedding, military ball, or otherwise. When Azazie reached out to me, I was so excited because they had the absolute perfect timing. In October, I will be a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding, and I had no clue where to begin looking for a dress, especially since she had a very specific color in mind. Not even a week after she asked me, I was not only pointed in the direction of Azazie by fellow blogger, Michelle, but received an email from the company asking if I wanted to style one of their custom gowns. Talk about fate!
Before I get into my tips, I want to share a little bit about Azazie. First of all, I know that from here on out, if there is an event I’m required to go to that calls for any sort of formal gown, I will be getting my dresses from this company because they offer completely customized dresses to your exact body shape, and they have a huge range of styles to choose from, so that you can feel 100% comfortable in the gown you choose. Another one of the perks is that they have a color board a mile long for you to pick your dress shade from. Whether you’re into tons of glam, minimal sparkle, or no bling at all, a short or long dress, or even a matching set, you’ll have something perfect to suit you and your gorgeous body type. When ordering your dress, you have the option to select a standard size (0-30), or input your exact measurements for a custom-tailored fit. I opted for the custom fit, and I’m so glad I did. This dress literally hugs my body like it was made just for me – and it was!
When preparing for a formal event, you may want to take a few things into consideration. From here, you can put together your look and be completely sure that you’ll feel comfortable no matter what the situation.
Where is the event being held? If you’re going to be partying the night away at the Met, you’ll want to wear something probably more glitzy glamorous – while a beachfront wedding might merit something slightly more bohemian, flowing, and simplistic.
Will you be sitting, standing, or dancing? This helps you decide which shoes to wear. If you know that you’ll be mostly sitting (say, a sit down dinner wedding reception) you can opt for the fancy heels since they won’t kill your toes. If you’re gonna boogie your booty off, maybe reach for a pair of flats or short wedges to keep you comfortable.
What will the weather be like? If you know it’s going to be chilly, bring a jacket. If you already know the dress you’re wearing, find outerwear that pairs with it so you don’t feel embarrassed to add the extra layer. You don’t want to be the one girl freezing her tush off while everyone else is comfortably bundled in coats and scarves. You don’t have to sacrifice fashion to keep from catching a cold. Also, you can style your hair properly if you’re aware of what the weather will be like.
Who will you be accompanied by? If your escort is your Uncle Jared from your mom’s side, be respectful of him and stay on the conservative side. He doesn’t want to see your goods (or maybe he does, which is even worse) so maybe save that plunging neckline for your significant other in a different place at a different time.
What time of day is the event? Nighttime calls for different colors than daytime. While an afternoon event might ask for knee-length pastels and flowers in your hair, late nights call for navy blue floor-length gown and a dramatic red lip. Keep in mind the specific style of the event.
Hopefully you now know exactly where to turn if you’re looking for formal-wear. Azazie is what perfect dress dreams are made of, and I can promise you won’t be disappointed or uncomfortable if you choose one of their pieces for your next event. Since these dresses are one-of-a-kind custom pieces, I could not make this post shop-able using RewardStyle, but you can can click on the links below to shop the exact items I wore.
