About a week before Christmas, I had the opportunity to interview and photograph with River City Fashion Uprising, a creative organization that came to be through the many writers, photographers, and fashion-minded individuals of Virginia Commonwealth University (only the coolest school in VA, and definitely where I would have attended, had I gone to college). I met up with their very talented photographer, Trysten, to shoot these photos, and emailed back and forth with Christina to answer the questions for their article (you can view it here). Of course, I wanted to wear an outfit that really embodied me in a nutshell – the only problem being … I will never nail myself down to one particular style (which is something I touch on in the interview).
I love taking fashion inspiration from many different time periods, and my sister will probably laugh as she reads this – but I love the 80’s! The vibrant colors, bold prints, and oversized pieces paired with chunky accessories is just so appealing to me. So I gathered up some of my current favorites in my closet and threw together what I feel to be an adequate representation of the best of the 80’s.
My sweater is from H&M and I was shocked to find out that it’s still in stock (but not for long), considering the fact that I bought it on clearance a month ago! I sized up and snagged a medium rather than my typical extra small, because I loved the baggy feel to it. My pants have that “grunge” feel that was oh-so popular towards the end of the 80’s and into the 90’s and 00’s. Let it be known that if you purchase these, they will be the most comfortable pants you own and they also will be the #1 discussion topic when you’re in the presence of anyone over 35 years old.
Of course I had to bring back those iconic 80’s baubles, and Sugarfix knows what’s up because they sent me this super fun and chunky necklace in the most vibrant pink that just happened to brilliantly match my chunky pump heels! The only thing I’m missing with this look is more volume to my hair and a scrunchy around my wrist! DJ Tanner, look out – I’m coming for your style 😂
What do you think of bringing back older styles? I so enjoy finding ways to incorporate them into my current wardrobe. Before you know it, we’ll be seeing styles from our own childhood recycled back around! Have a great weekend, everyone!
